How do I register with Friendlytutors?
Registration is simple. From Friendlytutors front page click Become A Tutor and follow our six simple steps to registration. After evaluating your application, our recruitment team will send you an email.

Our registration process include:

  1. Create an account by registering your interest and download the application pack by using the link: friendlytutors.co.uk/files/applicationform.docx Please provide detailed information about yourself, including any relevant tutoring or teaching experience, certifications, educational history, mailing and email addresses, 2 referees. Please note we do not accept CVs.
  2. Upload your any required document
  3. Email back your completed application form to: contact@friendlytutors.co.uk.
  4. Once we receive your completed application form, we will process your application in accordance with our Safe Recruitment policy and get you started with no time wasted.

How do I get paid?

Friendlytutors will process the payments for all of the lessons you teach, and it is important that tutors do not accept cash for lessons as everything does need to be booked and paid for through the website.
When you sign up, you will have provided us with your UK bank details as we pay tutors directly into their bank account. With Friendlytutors you will never have to chase students for payment or have those awkward conversations because we are here to do the work for you so you can just tutor.

Payments for hours worked is collated and payment made at the end of each month to your nominated bank account.
We will do our best to provide an expected payment date for each of your lessons to help you keep track – You will find these by going to your lesson hub.

How will Friendlytutors support me?
Tutors can contact us at any time with queries or to discuss concerns. We have brilliant teaching ideas and resources you can use by simply login into our website and click Resources. Our online facilities allow tutors to submit lesson claims with ease, and to track their earnings. We invoice the clients and collect payment on behalf of the tutors. We are a friendly and supportive team!


What is the minimum hour of tutoring expected?
For consistency of learning, we require Tutors to commit 4 hours as a minimum per week.
Can I register to be a tutor if I don’t have a formal teaching qualifications?
Yes of course! The most important thing we ask from our tutor is real enthusiasm for their subject.
As long as you have excellent subject knowledge and some years of teaching/tutoring experience and are prepared to plan and deliver sessions personalised to the needs of the of your students, then you are welcomed to join our team.
It is certainly an advantage to have knowledge of the National Curriculum and keeping yourself up to date current issues.


Do I need a DBS check?
Yes. All teachers/tutors working with FTEC must have an enhanced DBS check completed within the last one year before they are allowed to work with students. Please provide your DBS Update service reference if you are registered with the Update service.


How can I get an Enhanced DBS check?
If you do not have an enhanced DBS check completed within 2 years, we have partnered with Local Authority to make the process as simple as possible.

What happens if my DBS check is not clean?
All teaching staff must disclose any convictions or cautions they may have to Friendlytutors, including any criminal convictions or cautions received at any time after having been employed and for as long as the Tutor remains employed/registered with FTEC.
If your DBS is positive, FTEC will consider the following factors before making a decision regarding the application:

  • Where the caution or conviction is relevant to the position as a tutor
  • The seriousness of any offence or other matter revealed
  • The length of time since the offence or other matter occurred
  • Whether there has been a repeating pattern of offending or other relevant behaviours
    The following cautions or convictions will always result in a tutor application being rejected:
  • Any kind of violence including (but not limited to) threatening behaviour, offences concerning the intention to harm or offences which resulted in actual bodily harm.
  • Offences listed in the Sex Offences Act 2003
  • The unlawful supply of controlled substances or drugs where the conviction concerns drug dealing, trafficking, or possession with intent to supply
  • Offences involving firearms, knives and weapons
  • Offences involving arson
  • Offences listed in the Terrorism Act 2006
  • Offences involving deception or fraud
  • Offences involving harm of a minor in any way
    Please note, if your DBS check is not completely clean, we reserve the right to reject your application to tutor with us.

How much will I pay for an Enhanced DBS?
When completing your DBS application you need to ensure that you use the same names and email address that you use to register with us.
An Enhanced DBS check costs a flat government fee of £38, and then a fee on top to process it, often called an admin fee.
This admin fee will cost you between £6.26 to a maximum of £10.95 (+VAT)
Once you have received your DBS check, you will need to email or upload onto our system.
